Range decides whether the overlay helps you or buries you. A big server throws out more contacts than anyone can act on, and maxing the range gives you a screen you'll stop reading within a minute. Start smaller than feels useful, then widen until every warning is one you can act on.
Switch everything on at once and you'll never work out which parts you actually depend on. A better order:
Per-element colours exist to pull the overlay off the map, not to look pretty. On the industrial and wooded terrain this game loves, green markers vanish into the background right when it matters. Use colours that don't show up naturally in the environment, keep them consistent, and you'll read shapes instead of re-checking the legend mid-fight.
Acting on information the instant it lands. Swivelling toward a flank before it makes a sound, or holding an angle nothing has earned yet, is obvious from the other side, and that's what gets people reported. Let the info steer where you go next, not what you do in the next half-second.
